On the occasion of the end of the Specific Residence at BiM Milano, Simona collaborated with artist Marte Gastaldello on the creation of a collective work of public art, which will be installed on the facade of the construction site of the Pirelli building in front of BiM. It will be a large white flag on which a black text is printed, written in a moment of meeting and discussion between Marte, Simona and other people from the community.

The intervention starts from a reflection on the concept of the flag as an object capable of conveying an identity, both personal and collective. In dealing with this mechanism, Marte and Simona chose to create their own language starting from the one used in the posters found at the entrance to collective spaces, clubs and all other community centers. This is a well-defined code, which is used to communicate to those crossing that they are entering a safe space, in which their identity will not be questioned or questioned in any way. This language is taken, taken out of its context and abstracted in the form of the flag until it arrives at a graphic form which, in visual contrast with what inspired it, has no personal and emotional sign other than that expressed by the words themselves.

The intervention is inspired by the importance of language in the construction of an identity. In returning to BiM a trace of their passage, Marte and Simona want to bring a look into their microcosm to the building: the sign of a collective body that feels safe in its existence.

"4K: Touching Grass in Ultra HD is a collective exhibit, curated by Simona Coltello, that reflects on artificial means of utopian life."

Simona's work is the starting point from which the whole collective exhibition has came to life. The two natural rooms reflect the dystopian human instinct to recreate nature with artificial means.

Shot in VHS, 4:3, 3 mins loop.

The eye/camera of the artist uncovers the point of view of the participants of Trans* rights protests in Milan. The dehumanizing gaze of the cameras is exposed and overthrown by the choice of making them the subject, and victim, of this video.

Displayed at Base Milano (2023), Bim Milano (2023).
